To Whom It May Concern: Roxanne Your has been an intern in the fifth year program at the University of Cincinnati. She has been in my kindergarten classroom for the entire year. She came to the room in August before school started in order to help set up the room arrangement and to help organize all the supplies that arrived. During the first weeks of school she observed the opening procedures including morning meetings and guided discoveries and assisted with individual students. She gradually became responsible for small group reading and writing activities. She became familiar with classroom procedures and discipline and she also observed a variety of lesson formats for various areas of the curriculum. She began to conduct morning meetings and several lessons. During the second quarter of her internship Mrs. Your demonstrated a great deal of initiative. She has developed a sense of ownership for the class which is evident in all her actions. During that time she has demonstrated increasing competence with the new math program which was adopted by the district this year. She is knowledgeable about the computer and uses the internet to help develop themes and lessons. Mrs. Your wrote comprehensive comments for the morning class report cards and filled in the skills checklist for all morning students based on her observations and assessments. After watching me conduct several conferences, Mrs. Your felt comfortable enough to assume that responsibility and conducted virtually all the conferences for the morning class. She had an appropriate anecdote to relate about each student. She was composed and professional at each conference and helped the parents to feel at ease. Mrs. Your handles each discipline issue that arises in ways that maintain student integrity. She has been especially effective when dealing with discipline for the special needs student in our class. Mrs. Your has also demonstrated creativity and perseverance in helping a particular student overcome shyness in group settings. For the last several weeks, Mrs. Your has assumed the responsibility for writing each days lessons for each area of the curriculum. She has conducted each lesson for the morning class for several weeks. She has continued to make herself available to the district as a substitute teacher when needed for the afternoons. Mrs. Your continues to maintain her sense of humor and truly seems to enjoy each student with whom she comes in contact. She remains open to any suggestions that I might make regarding her lessons or management of classroom situations. Mrs. Your has attended all evening meetings such as "Meet the Teacher", "Open House", and both math infomaafion nights. She conducted the kindergarten orientation night meeting in my absence. I feel confident in recommending Mrs. Your for a teaching position in your school. If I can be of further assistance, please feel free to call me at Summit Elementary 474-2270. Sincerely,
