This week, I didn't do as good on the scoring.

I very disappointed in my quarterbacks so far.  Defense does look good though.

Here is the writeup:

QuickBasics stink in loss to Roxymorons

(9/19/2006) — Anthony Your is a perfectionist. Even after leading the Roxymorons to a 95-88 win the coach refused to accept any compliments, instead moving on to prepare for the next opponent.

Donte' Stallworth found the end zone for the second week in a row, this time on a 20-yard reception. You have to believe that Stallworth is loving his new surroundings. Matt Stover booted 4 field goals and 2 extra points to remain perfect on the season. Tiki Barber struggled most of the day, but the overtime period helped him reach the 100-yard mark for total offense for the second week in a row. Tiki average less than 2.5 yards per carry this week.

"I have to commend our team for sticking together," Roxymorons coach Anthony Your said.

Drew Bledsoe rose to the occasion this week by connecting on 2 touchdown passes and throwing for 237 yards. Bledsoe only completed 50% of his passes, but there were a lot of dropped balls. Donald Driver just keeps going and going… this week with 8 catches for 153 yards and 1 run for 16 yards. Driver hasn't found the end zone yet this season, but it appears to be just a matter of time.

"They came to play today," QuickBasics coach Jeff Handley said. "And they made a number of big plays. They did the job that they had to do. We got behind the 8-ball in the first half and couldn’t overcome it."

My wife urged me to enter the Meijer "It's What I Want" contest.  Basic premise is that you take a picture of what you want and tell why you need it.

I chose the Canon EOS XT digital camera.  Our camera had died 3 times in the last year (all warranty claims).  Last year, it died on the first day of Kindergarten (hence the caption).  About it a month ago, it died on our vacation to visit my sister in California.  She let us borrow her EOS and I loved it.  A great camera.

Please click here and vote for mine (picture below)...so that I can win.

Decided to try out Carbonite based on Omar's recommendation.  Seems like a great program & cheap.

I was looking around in the log (C:\Program Files\Carbonite\Carbonite Backup\data\Carbonite.log).  There are a lot of interesting messages and metrics there.  The funniest one that I saw was this:

"BackupThread: Backup for backup changes delayed due to backup delay."

Not sure if it is an obvious statement or conflicting...still pondering.

Here is the headlines from this week in fantasy football:

Roxymorons running on all cylinders in opening win
    Statsworld.com Fantasy Sources
    134 Roxymorons (1-0)
    • Tom Brady - 9t 17t TD
    • Tiki Barber - 110 rush yards, 61 rec yards
    • Terrell Owens - 21c TD
    • Donte' Stallworth - 141 rec yards, 42c TD
    • Matt Stover - 20g 42g FG
    • Chicago O/D - 84pr TD

    120 Fairfield Sharps (0-1)
    • Donovan McNabb - 314 pass yards, 42t 5t 31t TD
    • Larry Johnson - 80 rec yards
    • Willie Parker - 115 rush yards
    • Reggie Brown - 5c TD
    • Hines Ward - 7c TD
    • L.J. Smith - 56 rec yards
    • Kellen Winslow - 63 rec yards, 18c TD
    • Stephen Gostkowski - 32g FG
(9/12/2006) — A strong exhibition season is no guarantee of success. The Fairfield Sharps, unbeaten in the preseason, quickly lost their momentum in the season opener against the Roxymorons.

It looks like Donte' Stallworth will fit right in at Philadelphia. Stallworth's debut was outstanding with a 42-yard score and 141 yards receiving. Tiki Barber looked sharp in the opener, rushing for 110 yards on 18 carries and pulling in 5 receptions for 61 yards. Looks like Tiki may be ready for another big yardage season. Terrell Owens found the end zone on an impressive 21-yard reception late in the game. TO appears to be ready to make amends for last season's fantasy woes.

"You never want to say anything negative about your opponent," Roxymorons coach Anthony Your said with a wink. "But the Fairfield Sharps has a lot problems right now. They will be better later in the season."

Donovan McNabb didn't waste any time proving he recovered from last season's disaster. McNabb through for over 300 yards and scored on strikes from 5, 31, and 42 yards out. Larry Johnson racked up the yardage (68 yards rushing and 80 yards receiving), but he was held scoreless. It will be interesting to see how Johnson does on the ground with KC's questionable line. Maybe this will be Kellen Winslow's year to shine. Winslow scored on an 18-yard reception and finished with 8 catches for 63 yards.

"I'm fully confident they'll come out and fight and play hard," Fairfield Sharps coach Kris Traenkner said. "We've just got to eliminate the things that are costing us the games."

As it stands right now, I am down 7 points in my league.

I think Tiki will pullout it for me tonight...hopefully.  I know that I should have started Tony G....but Tight Ends usually are that productive.  Baltimore was surprisingly tough today on defense.

In addition, the Fairfield Sharps and my team are the top 2 teams in the league this week.

The Ohio State Buckeye's win over Texas last night was one of the best football games I have seen in awhile.  Probably the most impressive display was the punters (on both sides).  I think most people thought it was going to be a high scoring slugfest.  It turned out to be more like a Woody Hayes brawl over field position.

Unfortunately, I don't think UC will have any hope this year...especially after Friday's lost to Pitt.

Madison went to her first day of 1st Grade today.  She said that kids got tired in the afternoon...it's a long day.

Recently, my 1998 Honda Passport needed a new starter.  That costed about ~$650.  They also pointed out that it needed new axels & boots.  Plus, the brakes and tires needed replacing.  And finally, the windshield was cracked.  With all of that said, it was obvious I was upside down on the repairs vs. value of the car.

I started looking at new cars.  I really just needed a good commuter car.  The ones that I considered:

  • Honda Civic
Nice car but I felt the steering wheel was too close.
  • Honda Fit
Good car and good price.  It has a lot more space than you might think.  Unfortunately, a 3 to 4 month waiting list.  I called 5 Honda dealers to just see & drive one.
  • Toyota Corolla
    Ok car...great gas mileage.
  • Toyota Matrix
Good looking car and very comfortable.

I didn't consider the Toyota Camry.  I test drove one because of the my uncle knew of a good deal.  I was pleasantly surprised about the ride, size, price and gas mileage.  Unfortunately, they didn't make a good offer on my trade-in.

After I went to test-drive the Honda Fit, I stopped by a nearby dealership to show my wife the Camry.  That dealer had a "service courtesy car" that had 9500 miles.  It was fully loaded and I was able to get it for about $7k off and a fair trade in value.

One thing that I did learn: if you have a trade-in car that is not in mint condition, don't bring it to the sale.  I actually firmed up my deal with my trade-in sight unseen.  I was honest about its condition but they were more focused on the new car.  It also helps that it was a few minutes before they closed.

Tonight we had our fantasy football draft tonight.  I think I did pretty good.

Brady, Tom  QB NE
Plummer, Jake  QB Den
Barber, Tiki  RB NYG
Foster, DeShaun  RB Car
Jones, Thomas  RB Chi
Jurevicius, Joe  WR Cle
Moss, Santana  WR Was
Owens, Terrell  WR Dal
Stallworth, Donte'  WR NO
Gonzalez, Tony  TE KC
Rackers, Neil  K Ari
Stover, Matt  K Bal
Baltimore  O/D Bal
Chicago  O/D Chi
Denver  O/D Den

This is the third year in a row that I have had TO.  The first year he did great.  The second year (last year) he did really good for a few weeks and then he got fired.  What was interesting was that everyone stayed away from him.  I was able to pick him up in the 5th or 6th round.  I think Parcells can control him no problem and will just ignore his ego.

Just finished watching the Emmy's (I could only watch the last hour) and was pleased that 24 won best Drama and lead actor for Kiefer Sutherland.

24 is clearly one of the best shows that I have seen in a long time.  I believe they can thank their writers for compelling characters and a storyline that is unpredictable and demands you to continue watching.

By the way, I think Chloe has one of those exploding Dell laptops in the picture.

ActionPack--A very Rail-ish DAL generator for .NET has been released on CodePlex.  It is definitely one of the cooling things I have seen in the code-generation world.  One thing that stands out about it is that no actually code is generated...just the binaries.  It relies on the 2.0 framework.

I know one of the most painful gaps of bridging .NET and SQL is nullable types.  I am currently using the Nullable Types project on SourceForge with a few customizations.  I will be interested how this addresses null values.
